Children and Youth area within ABS
The field of children and youth statistics encompasses a diverse population. The ABS produces statistics covering a range of topics relevant to children and youth including family, community, social participation, health, education and work. Statistics play an important role in describing the lives of children and youth and can illuminate problems they experience and some of the factors associated with those problems.

The Information Development Plan (IDP), published in December 2006, is an agreement among key stakeholders on statistical work required in the field of children and youth to support policy, planning and accountability and provide a better evidence base for analysing outcomes for children in the wider social and economic context. It supports the work of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and its partner organisations in enhancing the National Statistical Service.
